Carbon tool steel is divided into carbon cutting tool steel, carbon mold steel and carbon measuring steel. Carbon tool steel refers to carbon tool steel used for making cutting tools. Carbon mold steel refers to carbon tool steel used for making cold and hot working dies. Carbon gauge steel refers to carbon tool steel used for making measuring tools.

Product features

   Carbon tool steel is cheap, easy to obtain, easy to forge, and has good machinability. The main disadvantage of carbon tool steel is poor hardenability. It needs quenching with water, brine or caustic water. Distortion and cracking tend to be large, and wear resistance and thermal strength are very low. Therefore, carbon tool steel can only be used to make small handmade tools or woodworking tools, as well as small cold working dies with low precision, simple shape, small size and light load, such as small punch, scissors, cold die, cold heading die and so on.
  It is very important to point out that carbon tool steel is suitable for cold heading die. According to the working conditions of the cold heading die, the mold material needs enough hardness and hardened layer in addition to the sufficient strength and the mold working surface and the mold cavity, so the mold needs a certain hardened layer after heat treatment. And the outside can not be hardened, so that it can maintain higher toughness. If the hardened layer is too deep, it will crack rapidly due to the great impact on the work.
